1. The number one most important rule for any game is to respect all members. This is a game only, and OOC drama will not be tolerated. We’re here to write and have fun. If you’re having a problem with another member, either quietly resolve the issue between the two of you or bring the issue to one of the mods.
2. No God-moding. This rule is found in every rpg in the book and is one of the most critical. You cannot control another character’s motions, thoughts, or dialogue. What this also means is that your character can’t infer what another character will think or assume they will react in a certain way until the player rps them doing so. Some exceptions to this rule do apply. If two characters agree to walk into a shop, one player may rp both character moving forward. In addition, if there is an action you feel would be beneficial to the scene for you to rp, simply ask the other player if you can control their character for a moment and what you’d like to have their character do.
3. The rating for this game is R/NC-17. Adult content will be allowed, specifically because the series was adult oriented. This includes violence, sex, language and adult situations. All explicit scenes should be marked with a warning. However, the purpose of this game is not to have an unending string of intercharacter sex, so please be subtle and tasteful about what you choose to write rather than imply.
4. Grammar is required. Take an extra minute to reread your posts. A missed word or an occasional mistake aren’t an issue, but if your post is so littered with grammatical errors that it’s illegible we have a problem. In addition, none of this: “OMG LK PPL” and “L8TER KTHX”.
5. You must have seen the entire Cowboy Bebop series to join this game. The movie is recommended, but not required. This game will be based on the events of the show and a working knowledge of people, places, and past events is necessary.
6. Almost any character from the series can be played, provided they were alive when the series ended. There may be exceptions to this rule both directions. If you're just dying to play a 'dead' character, feel free to ask. There are some characters we will not be flexible on, others we may. When choosing a canon character for play, please consider how they will fit into the current storyline. Original characters can be created and are welcome. Please follow the character profile template to create your original character. Original characters should have a history that places them into the events of the game in some fashion. OCs can join a pre-existing bounty group or syndicate.
7. Please start the game with one character. The limit for new members is two characters until both characters are established in the game and active. Once both characters are active, a player may then ask for a third character. The limit for character is two major characters, and three minor characters, however we encourage all players to limit their characters as much as possible and use the NPC account for minor roles. We've seen in the past how playing too many characters leads to character neglect and player burnout, and we don't want to see that happen here.
Posting- RP, Journaling and Comments:
1. All characters will have their own personal journal. Journals will be used to express thoughts and convey messages just like a real journal. Bebop Technology allows for these journals to be digital, and they are located on the World Wide Web. Character should update their journals a minimum of weekly and use their journals to forward the plot via conversations and messages. All journal conversations should be written in first person.
2. Journal entries can be listed in a number of ways. Anything posted that is not marked otherwise is considered public knowledge to those would happen by or regularly read the journal. Text marked with an LJ cut to a specific character or group of characters is still public. Text marked with an LJ cut and the word PRIVATE to a specific character or group of characters can be read OOC by all members, but IC only by those who can see the entry. Words marked specifically as private can only be read by the character that owns the journal.
3. Commenting on journal entries is highly encouraged, both for character development and plot movement. Comments may also be marked as “Private to…” specific characters.
§ All comments on a journal entry marked private to one character are considered readable only by the journal owner and that character. § All comments on a journal entry marked private to a group of characters are considered readable by the journal owner and those characters unless marked otherwise. § All comments on a journal entry with both private and public parts, or with private comments to more than one character are considered readable by any character with access to read some part of the entry unless marked otherwise.
4. Characters should only read journals that make sense in character. People they have met personally or through a mutual contact’s journal are fine. Your brand new bounty hunter should not be scouring the journal entries of the syndicate members who they don’t even know exist. The world of bebop is very big and chance stumbling upon another character’s journal is discouraged unless previously discussed as a plot point. To put it bluntly, your character can’t know everything about everyone and your character should not be traipsing around sharing trade secrets with the enemy. Excessive abuse of this policy will result in termination from the game.
5. Role-play scenes are the written action of the game. Roleplay scenes can be written via email, AIM chat log, googledocs, or as a commented entry directly on the incharacter community. If the scene is a thread of comments, please consolidate the comments into a single scene once it is complete and edit into the body of the post. Roleplay scenes should be written in third person, past tense. Please double space between paragraphs, particularly if the writer is changing. [If you do not have a gmail account and would like one for use of googledocs, please email the moderators at beboprpg@gmail.com]
6. All roleplay posts should be posted on beboprpg. All roleplay posts should be cut with an LJ-tag. All posts will have a header as follows: Who: Persons Involved in Post When: Relative time of the event What: Brief Description of Post Warnings: Any needed warnings. Include a Post rating and reason for rating.
7. In addition, please put the names of all involved characters in the 'tags' box. This will allow easy organization of all posts by character.
8. Anyone can join Role-play posts marked as OPEN in the Who description. When doing so, please ensure your participation is in character.
9. All out of character posts, including introduction, plot discussion, questions, comments, or notifications of absence should be posted on bebopooc. Please tell us if you're going to be away for a week.
10. We also have the bebopnpc for NPC usage. This account can be used by anyone as needed to roleplay npc characters or send packages/messages 'anonymously'. If you feel you have a need for this journal, please contact a moderator for the password.
Game Mechanics:
1. Timing - This game starts in "December 2072" but Bebop time and weather do not correspond to changes in Earth time despite the fact that civilization chose to keep Earth Calendar. As far as the game is concerned, we will move the time along as the action moves. A game week might pass in a real day if that makes sense, while a game day might take two weeks if that day is filled with action. So time will move along as scenes are finished. The moderators will communicate if a significant chunk of time passed, but otherwise we'll just let things move along. For the 'when' portion of a post, use relative time - "Evening, Morning, After such and such as occured".
2. Travel - Travel through the warp gates is another part of the game. On average assume it takes a day or two to travel from one planet to the next. So if your character in on Venus and there is action going on in Ganymede your character can't suddenly 'be there'. However a few 'game days' later, they can arrive (as long as they are in possession of a mode of transportation).
